Bengalureans to get one-hour free internet daily
Soon, Bengalurians would get free internet for an hour daily.
The Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka C. N. Ashwat Narayan announced the plan of launching free internet daily for an hour in Bengaluru.
Bengaluru is reputed as India’s tech hub. The citizens have been demanding free internet facility for four years.
To satisfy their demands, the government decided to offer free Wi-Fi service for an hour to citizens of the city.
In this regard, the government is joining ACT Fibernet, one of the most popular internet service providers in the city.
However, it needs nine months to roll out the program. The project is estimated to cost around ₹100 crores to provide free internet service for an hour every day to citizens.
As the government joined ACT Fibernet for services, it would start installing poles across the city.
ACT Fibernet would charge a nominal fee and would offer power supply as well. The launching of free internet service would help expand home broadband services in the city.
Several Bengalureans are eagerly waiting for this facility as it is much needed in high-density areas like Bengaluru.
Though the Deputy CM announced the free internet facility, he did not specify whether the service would be available throughout the city or only in select areas.
Though mobile data consumption is on a boom, the usage of broadband is low.
There are many broadband service providers in the country like ACT Fibernet, Reliance JioFiber, Airtel, to reach the audience.
If everything goes as expected and the government would roll out free internet, the broadband services would be boosted.
At the same time, the popularity of ACT would also increase with the successful deployment of free internet access points.
Google already installed data services at 400 railway stations in the country. With this move, the free internet service reaches many other places beyond railway stations.
