SC reserves judgment of Sabarimala
As mentioned by the Apex Court, the hearing on pleas sought the review of its verdict on Sabarimala started yesterday.
A bench of five judges headed by India’s Chief Justice (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi heard the opinions of various people.
Yet, The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) that runs the Sabarimala temple, took a U-turn during the hearing.
It supported the verdict of the Supreme Court, which allowed women of all ages to enter the temple.
The Board includes nominees from the state government. It told a five-judge constitutional bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi that it is about time that a specific class (women) not be discriminateddue to their natural attributes.
The Kerala government stated that it agreed with the verdict of the Supreme Court given on September 28, and urged to dismiss all the petitions that sought the review of the verdict.
In this context, the Supreme Court reserved its judgment on Wednesday on petitions to review the verdict that allowed women of all ages to enter Sabarimala temple.
Total petitions are 65, out of them 56 petitions are for review and four are fresh writ petitions. The Court reserved its judgment on all these petitions.
The verdict of September 28 that allowed all women to the temple of Lord Ayyapa led to serious consequences and provoked violent protests in and around Sabarimala temple, Kerala.
Followed by the verdict, various pleas and petitions have been filed in the court seeking to the review the verdict.
