Goa CM makes sexist comments
Manohar Parrikar, the chief minister of Goa, was talking about the crackdown on the drug trade within the state when he made a rather sexist and patriarchal comment that has been receiving much backlash on social media.
Parrikar was saying how the war on the narcotics trade in Goa is continuing, and it will continue until all drugs are out of the state.
He has taken strict actions against the drug trade, and he has asked the police to be strict when dealing with drug traders as well.
Although he does not believe it is possible to completely eliminate all drugs from the state, Parrikar is fighting to make Goa as drug-free as possible.
However, despite his efforts against the trade, this sexist comment that he made will certainly diminish his reputation.
When Parrikar was conveying his worries about the rise of alcohol drinking in Goa, he made a remark that he is especially worried because “even the girls have started drinking beer”.
It is possible that he was quoted out of context and his comment was misunderstood, but regardless, this comment has caused an uproar on social media, especially on Twitter.
People have harshly criticized the sexism in his comment, reminding him that beer-drinking girls are perfectly normal.
They have also criticized the statement’s patriarchal nature, in which he makes no mention of boys drinking beer as if boys drinking more beer is much less of a concern than girls drinking more beer.
Before he made this comment, Manohar Parrikar was a highly respected Chief Minister. In fact, he is the only Chief Minister of a state who is an IIT graduate.
However, this comment has caused people to question him, and it is certainly degrading his stature and popularity.
People are criticizing his statement since men drink alcohol far more than women, and they are usually the causers of any drinking-related issues.
People are asking him to really take a look at the issue and focus on the people who are the actual problem-causers in this situation since beer-drinking girls are not causing most of the drug-related problems.
