Know about certification for Ayurvedic products
This has been an era full of people who are looking at Ayurveda and alternative medicine more and more. Many new shops and chains started to sell Ayurvedic medicine.
With such a rising trend, it is inevitable that fakes and bad products will become prominent too. It is important to know how to find out what products are legitimate and which products are fake.
The first thing to know is that every consumable product has to undergo various stages of inspection before being certified.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) takes care of this process. However, for a product to be certified as ayurvedic, it has to be screened through quality verification set by Quality Council of India (QCI).
QCI gives ayurvedic products with quality labels like ‘premium’ and ‘standard’ quality. These are compared with international or national guidelines respectively.
These marks are called AYUSH Premium Mark and AYUSH Standards Mark.
Despite such a certification, there are only seven manufacturing companies in India that carry this certification. These include all variety of products like capsules, shampoos, oils and syrups.
When it comes to Ayurvedic drugs, they are regulated under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI).
DCGI is also supported by statutory bodies like Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani Drugs Technical Advisory Board (ASUDTAB) and Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani Drugs Consultative Committee (ASUDCC).
Ayurvedic medicinal drugs can have ayurvedic certification by getting the Certificate of Pharmaceutical Products (CoPP) for Ayurveda product by DCGI.
Use these certifications as standards for when you buy ayurvedic products next time. Do not fall prey for fake products.
Being aware will help fight fake products and let the real Ayurveda shine.
