Internet.org Project launched by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg
Internet.org, the global internet project has been launched by the CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg. This project is aimed towards the rural parts of India which are not connected to the internet. During his visit to India, Zuckerberg has stated that about a billion people in India are still not connected to the internet. The founders of the project are big companies like Facebook, Ericsson, MediaTek, Nokia, Opera, Qualcomm and Samsung.
Zuckerberg has praised India for its Mangalyaan mission and stated that this is the time for all of India to get educated with the internet. The internet.org app has been released which offers basic internet services for free. Zuckerberg has stated that the biggest barrier to the internet in India is social and cultural acceptance. He has stated that internet connectivity can now be considered a basic human right. Zuckerberg is set to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.
