India rejects Pakistan’s proposal for talk
As Pakistan proposed to hold foreign secretary level talks with India, India rejected the proposal. Pakistan wanted to talk about the situation related to Kashmir. The cross border terrorism issues have been a big fuel to the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
Pakistan foreign secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry invited India for this talk. Responding to him, India’s foreign secretary S Jaishankar said that he is willing to travel to Islamabad. However, he made it clear that Pakistan has no locus standi with any aspect of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that it is completely an internal matter of India and that the only thing Pakistan can do is put an end to cross-border terrorism and infiltration. Indian high commissioner sent this response to Islamabad Gautam Bambawale.
India proposed that any talks should be focused completely on cross-border terrorism because that topic is very crucial to the current situation in J&K.
According to sources, India officially rejected the self-serving allegations regarding the situation in J&K. It was made clear that Pakistan has no locus standi regarding the matter at all.
Pakistan made the invitation saying that it is an international obligation for both countries to hold a meeting and resolve the issue. This invitation came as the tension between both countries has been increasing with a war of words that has been happening.
Regarding a statement made by Pakistan Prime Minister’s advisor on foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz talking about the invitation, India made it clear that talks would only happen about important and relevant issues. It was further added that stopping of Pak-supported cross-border terrorism is important.
With the situation in Kashmir, India and Pakistan have been in a war of words over the statements by Islamabad on Kashmir. This “war” has been happening since the unrest started in Kashmir.
