The curfew and lockdown of Kashmir is still on going. Authorities are continuing the curfew and restrictions in Kashmir Valley as 33rd days have passed. Separatists in the valley did not stop their protests and the authorities are also not looking to stop.

According to a senior police official, the curfew will continue in Anantnag town and restrictions will continue in Shopian, Kulgam and Pulwama towns. He also added that the restrictions will also continue in old city and uptown Batmaloo area of Srinagar city.

Sopore, Kupwara, Handwara and Baramulla towns will also see similar restrictions and curfew from the authorities.

He said, the authorities have placed prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPc (Criminal Procedure Code) in Ganderbal, Bandipora and Badgam towns.

The curfew is being held to stop the separatists who are continuing their shutdown call through weekly issuance of protest calendars.

The authorities have issued curfew and strict restrictions in the strife ridden valley on July 9. It was a day after Hizbul commander, Burhan Wani, was killed in a gunfight with the security forces. That was the inciting event for the strife currently going on in Kashmir.

Kashmir has essentially been in a complete lockdown since then. Normal life has pretty much vanished with even basic services becoming extremely hard to find. Due to the strife and the enforced curfew, all educational institutions, shops, public transport and other business establishments have remained closed for the last 33 days. The interior markets in cities and towns are barely running. They have a brief period of opening in the evenings.

According to the police, there hasn’t been many incidents in the valley beside some stone pelting incidents at three places in Kupwara, Bandipora and Anantnag districts. They stated that the overall law and order situation generally remained calm on Tuesday.
