IMD issues cyclone alert to Southern States
Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issues cyclone warning to Southern India. Especially many states of Tamil Nadu are going to face cyclonic storm by Monday night due to depression. They also issued warning to fishermen not to venture in sea coasts in the coming 48 hours. The cyclone is not just going to hit Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, but also other southern states. The deep depression over Bay of Bengal is likely to turn into cyclonic storm in these regions.
After the announcement of IMD, various schools and colleges in Puducherry, Chennai are closed connecting the districts of Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur. Heavy rains are forecasted in coastal districts of Puducherry and south Tamil Nadu in the next 48 hours with winds of 320 kilometres expected southeast of Chennai. The cyclonic storm is expected to cross the north coast of Tamil Nadu by today night. The rainfall is also forecasted in various other southern states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala in the next 24 hours.
The southern part of these states in addition to Rayalseema and Tamil Nadu are going to be affected by this cyclone. Gusty winds are expected ranging from 45-55 kmph which will eventually reach up to 80 kmph along the coasts from toady afternoon. As per the estimation of IMD, it is very difficult to reach coasts of Tamil Nadu in the coming 48 hours.
Several precautions are taken in this context. People of these regions are advised to move to safer places. The Revenue and Disaster Management Departments of the territorial administration are ready to encounter the situation in the wake of forthcoming cyclone. Now, heavy rains are continuously falling in Puducherry due to which, the usual life of people has been interrupted. Since people are in a mood of Diwali festival, the cyclone seems to spoil their mood and they are worried about the situation.
