Man treks over 102 days to promote fitness and sobriety
Raising awareness about fitness and the dangers of substance abuse often needs bold steps. B Hari Kumar, a 39-year-old fitness coach from Coimbatore, chose one such path.
Since February 1, he has trekked the Velliangiri Hills for a record 102 consecutive days.
The Velliangiri Hills, located in the Western Ghats, rise to 1,778 meters above sea level. The 5.5 km trek includes seven hills and ends at the Velliangiri Aandavar Temple.
Typically, the trek takes around six to seven hours. However, Hari Kumar completes it in just two and a half hours daily.
He starts the trek at 9:30 am, reaches the top in just 90 minutes, and descends in under an hour.
By 12:30 pm, he finishes the entire journey. His consistency and speed have inspired many fitness enthusiasts and local youth.
Earlier this year, Hari Kumar completed 26 continuous days of trekking. Then, he decided to aim for 108 days during the open trekking season, which lasts from February 1 to May 31. As of May 25, he has completed 102 days.
His mission goes beyond personal achievement. He wants to send a strong message: health and discipline can beat addiction.
Through his daily climbs, he spreads the idea that physical activity builds not only strength but also mental clarity.
His efforts have gained attention from his community. Many now look up to him as a role model.
His friends admire his dedication and fitness level. Some have even started their own fitness journeys after hearing about his challenge.
Though the trekking route passes through a forest reserve, and the temple at the summit is under the HR&CE department, Hari Kumar follows all necessary rules and timings.
Ultimately, his consistent climbs symbolise more than fitness. They reflect the power of purpose and the ability to inspire change.
By simply walking uphill each day, Hari Kumar helps others rise above addiction and unhealthy lifestyles.
