Aandhi village leading the way towards a zero-waste future
Aandhi, a small village in Jaipur district, Rajasthan, is making remarkable strides toward sustainability.
Situated just 43 kilometres from Jaipur, the village is transforming itself into a zero-waste model with the help of cutting-edge green technologies.
The initiative is powered by a range of technological solutions designed to convert various types of waste into useful resources.
Food waste, agro waste, wastewater, and even hospital waste generated from local institutions are being repurposed thanks to newly implemented green technologies.
Key components of this initiative include the Organic Waste Bio-Methanation Plant, Vermifiltration Technology, Constructed Wetlands, and a Resource Recovery Centre.
Together, these technologies form a comprehensive, eco-friendly approach that addresses waste management and promotes sustainability.
At the government school, an Organic Waste Bio-Methanation Plant with a 100 Kg capacity converts organic waste into biogas.
Powered by solar energy, it helps reduce reliance on traditional fuels, promoting cleaner energy and lower emissions.
The village’s community health centre is home to a verification technology system, which uses earthworms to treat wastewater, making it suitable for reuse in irrigation and landscaping.
This solar-powered system contributes to efficient water management.
The Constructed Wetlands at the main pond replicate natural processes to treat wastewater and restore the pond’s ecosystem. This helps enhance biodiversity and improves the health of the water body.
Additionally, a Resource Recovery Centre has partnered with recycling agencies to ensure proper collection and disposal of recyclable materials.
The village also implemented vermicomposting units, teaching locals how to compost organic waste.
These efforts demonstrate how green technologies can transform rural communities, contributing to environmental sustainability and the promotion of waste-to-wealth models.
With its success, Aandhi village is leading by example, showcasing a replicable model for other villages across India.
This initiative aligns with India’s goals for a sustainable future, reducing waste, mitigating climate change, and progressing toward a net-zero nation.
