Women police to handle PM Modi’s security on Women’s Day

For the first time in India’s history, an all-women security team will be deployed to oversee the security arrangements for a major event attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This special initiative will take place on March 8, in Navsari, Gujarat, marking International Women’s Day with a bold and unprecedented step in law enforcement.

Gujarat’s Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, announced that for the first time, an all-women team will handle the security for Prime Minister Modi’s visit.

The security detail, from the Prime Minister’s arrival at the helipad in Vansi Borsi village to the event venue, will be managed entirely by women officers, marking a historic move.

This initiative is a significant milestone, highlighting the increasing role of women in maintaining law and order.

A large contingent of women officers has been assembled to ensure seamless security operations.

The team includes:

  • 2,100+ women constables
  • 187 sub-inspectors
  • 61 police inspectors
  • 16 deputy superintendents of police
  • 5 Superintendents of Police (SPs)
  • 1 Inspector General of Police (IG)
  • 1 Additional Director General of Police (ADGP)

The security operations will be supervised by senior IPS officer and Home Secretary Nipuna Torawane.

This all-women force demonstrates women’s growing leadership in law enforcement.

During his two-day visit to Gujarat and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, PM Modi will attend the Lakhpati Didi Sammelan in Vansi Borsi village on March 8.

The event aims to promote women’s financial empowerment by supporting female entrepreneurs and self-help groups, helping them grow and thrive in their respective businesses and communities.

Minister Sanghavi stated that this initiative sends a strong global message about women’s role in ensuring security.

It also showcases Gujarat as a progressive state, where women lead various fields.

By entrusting an all-women team with such a crucial responsibility, the government reinforces its commitment to women’s empowerment and safety.
