Pinaka MBRL, a game-changer in India’s Artillery

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed the Guided Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL). It is a system that ranks among the finest globally.

With its exceptional precision and extended range, the Pinaka system has garnered international interest and is poised to become a crucial asset in India’s defence arsenal.

The Indian Army plans to deploy the Pinaka system later this year, a move that will significantly enhance its artillery firepower.

In a strategic shift, the Army is considering reducing its reliance on high-cost tactical missiles and opting for the indigenous Pinaka system.

To support this decision, DRDO has been tasked with developing two new longer-range variants equipped with advanced guidance systems.

The upcoming Pinaka variants include rockets with ranges of 120 km and 300 km.

These longer-range systems will be developed by DRDO’s Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) and manufactured by Pune-based Munitions India Limited (MIL) under a transfer of technology agreement.

The 300 km variant stands out for its capability to deliver larger payloads, compatibility with existing launch platforms, and ability to strike deep into enemy territory.

Its precision makes it indispensable for strategic operations, ensuring minimal collateral damage while neutralizing critical military targets.

The evolution of the Pinaka system highlights India’s advancements in indigenous defence technology.

Initially designed as an unguided rocket launcher with a 40 km range, the system now incorporates cutting-edge navigation, control, and guidance technologies.

Rigorous testing across multiple field ranges has validated its enhanced range, accuracy, and rate of fire, making it a modern warfare essential.

The Guided Pinaka rockets will eventually replace older, unguided variants, providing a more efficient and precise artillery solution. Manufactured by Indian defence firms under DRDO’s supervision, the Pinaka system showcases the country’s growing self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

With its strategic capabilities and global appeal, the Guided Pinaka system exemplifies India’s commitment to bolstering its defence capabilities and reducing dependency on foreign imports.
