The rise of Mighty Millets from kitchen to corporate success

In 2018, Sahil Jain, a chartered accountant by profession, decided to leave his corporate job at KPMG, Pune to pursue his entrepreneurial dream.

Inspired by his mother Meena Jain, a nutritional consultant, Sahil ventured into the health food business.

Meena had been making nutritious powders for her clients. With the growing demand for healthy snacks, Sahil saw an opportunity to turn his mother’s homemade formulations into a business.

Together, the mother-son duo started a small venture from their kitchen and crafted preservative-free, nutritious snacks. They focussed on health-conscious people.

Meena was the mastermind behind the formulations, while Sahil focused on bringing their products to a wider market.

They introduced innovative snacks like dates-ragi bars and super seed bars, which quickly gained popularity among family, friends, and Meena’s clients.

The first big break for their brand, Mighty Millets, came when KPMG India ordered 400 Diwali gift hampers, leading to revenues of ₹3 lakh.

This success pushed them to expand their reach through social media and influencer marketing.

However, Sahil soon realized that B2C (business to consumer) required significant marketing investment.

Wanting to remain bootstrapped, they shifted their focus to B2B (business-to-business) sales.

By 2019, Sahil was approaching corporates, hotels, and nutritionists. After several attempts, the first breakthrough came with the luxury hotel Conrad Pune.

Despite early challenges, the business gained momentum, especially post-COVID-19, with JW Marriott and other luxury hotels becoming regular clients.

As demand grew, Sahil and Meena hired a team and converted a vacant one-bedroom house into their production centre.

Their range of healthy snacks expanded, catering to breakfast buffets, corporate gifting, and minibar items.

Today, Mighty Millets generates monthly revenues of ₹6 lakh and aims to reach ₹1 crore in annual revenues.

With third-party manufacturers now handling production, Sahil and Meena focus on ensuring sales growth and maintaining high product quality.
