Maintaining a healthy lifestyle becomes crucial as we age, but reclaiming your fitness is never too late.

Angelo Joseph, a 61-year-old, defied the odds and participated in a 5.8k run on World Heart Day after undergoing a quadruple bypass surgery.

Despite the challenges he faced, his journey showcases how determination and a positive mindset can overcome even the toughest barriers.

After his surgery, doctors advised Joseph to avoid strenuous activities, but he began with light walking.

Over time, these short walks evolved into longer distances, eventually leading him to participate in events like the TCS 10K and a half-marathon.

His persistence to overcome both physical and mental barriers has been remarkable.

Joseph explains that the most difficult part wasn’t the surgery itself, but breaking through the mental roadblocks that come with recovery.

His health challenges began during a morning walk when he experienced chest discomfort.

A subsequent treadmill test revealed several blockages in his heart, and doctors recommended immediate surgery.

Previously stressed by a demanding career, Joseph realised that his unhealthy lifestyle had caught up with him.

Following his recovery, a bed sore developed, requiring an additional surgery just three weeks later. However, this did not deter him from his fitness goals.

Once he healed, Joseph committed himself to walking and later running. His journey from gentle walks to marathons became a personal challenge and a message to others that recovery is possible with determination.

Over the past three years, Joseph has taken part in several running events, proving that age and health conditions need not be obstacles.

His cardiologist, Dr. Tameem Ahmed, emphasized that with proper treatment, early detection, and rehabilitation, even those with serious heart issues can live active lives.

Joseph now serves as an inspiration to many, proving that with willpower, it’s never too late to take control of your health.
