Good healthcare often begins with compassion, and Dr Gaurav Mishra embodies this spirit every day.

A resident of Bihar’s Rohtas district, he offers free treatment to patients at his Saguna Mor clinic in Patna every Tuesday.

He even performs surgeries without charge when required.

Dr Mishra, a 41-year-old urologist posted at ANMCH in Gaya Ji, also travels to remote villages to help poor patients.

He visits his ancestral village, Durgadih, on Sundays and provides free consultations and medicines.

On average, 20-30 patients wait for him there each week. He carries uroflowmetry machines and emergency drugs in his car, and he treats urgent cases on the spot.

Over the last 11 years, Dr Mishra has performed more than 200 surgeries and treated nearly 25,000 outdoor patients.

Moreover, over one lakh people have received free medical advice at his clinic and village medical camps.

These numbers reflect his consistent dedication.

His motivation began in childhood when he stood in long queues for his mother’s kidney treatment.

Her wish for him to serve the needy inspired him to study medicine. Consequently, he completed his MBBS, MS, and MCh from Patna’s prestigious institutions, earning a gold medal during his training.

Although he started as an assistant professor at AIIMS-Patna, he sought a deeper purpose.

Later, he joined ANMCH through the Bihar Public Service Commission. Yet he felt that government duty alone could not meet the needs of many poor patients.

Therefore, he expanded his services beyond hospital walls.

Dr Mishra also relies on his network of doctor friends at AIIMS-Delhi and other major institutes.

He contacts them whenever patients need advanced care. This collaboration helps poor families access treatment that might otherwise cost several thousand rupees.

People across Rohtas admire his humility and commitment. Residents like Sanjay Choudhary say that villagers regard him with deep respect. They value his simple nature and tireless work for the suffering.

Dr Mishra’s journey from a farmer’s son to a devoted surgeon shows how compassion can transform lives. His service continues to inspire many across Bihar.
