The Able Mind's Accessible Approach revolutionizes mental healthcare

In the dynamic realm of mental healthcare, The Able Mind has emerged as a transformative force.

Launched formally in April 2022, this Bengaluru-based venture was founded by Rohini Rajeev and her husband Rajeev Vijayan.

The startup has pioneered an integrated online and offline platform to facilitate connections between individuals and certified psychotherapists.

For a modest sum of ₹500 a month, anyone can access professional guidance, making mental health support more accessible than ever.

Rohini Rajeev, the brain behind The Able Mind, boasts an impressive background as a social worker, psychotherapist, and licensed marital therapist.

Hailing from Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, Rohini completed her master’s degree in medical and psychiatric social work in 2002.

She is now on the verge of attaining a PhD in Social Sciences from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.

With a rich journey encompassing diverse training experiences in hospitals, psychiatric wards, and rehabilitation centres, Rohini’s ethos emphasizes challenging stereotypes and biases to serve society more effectively.

Having transitioned over two decades from rehabilitation work to psychotherapy for individuals, couples etc., Rohini’s journey took a pivotal turn.

Between December 2021 and February 2022, she along with Dr Jessy Fenn conducted a comprehensive pan-India survey on the mental health landscape among individuals aged 16 and above.

This survey illuminated critical insights. Some of them are fear of judgment, lack of awareness, stigma, limited access to help, and high therapy costs. These deterred youngsters from seeking assistance.

Fueled by these findings, Rohini and Rajeev developed The Able Mind app, offering text-based services that allow users to engage in 15-minute live chat sessions or asynchronous text-based therapy.

Remarkably, research supports the efficacy of text-based therapy for mild to moderate mental health conditions.

The Able Mind boasts a dedicated team of around 20 in-house mental health professionals. Each of them holds a master’s degree in psychology and a minimum of 250 hours of supervised counselling experience.

With their combined expertise, the venture currently supports approximately 1,000 clients across various mediums.

Since its inception, over 8,000 individuals have sought consultation, while the app has been downloaded about 13,500 times, underlining the growing demand for accessible mental health support.

In a realm where acceptance and support are essential, The Able Mind’s innovative approach stands as a beacon of hope, bridging gaps and fostering understanding through technology and empathy.
