River Indie revolutionizes urban commute
In the burgeoning Indian electric vehicle (EV) landscape, Bengaluru-based startup River has made a significant entry with the launch of its first EV, the Indie electric scooter.
Priced at ₹1.25 lakh (ex-showroom), River is gearing up to begin deliveries by August. Customers keen on this novel ride can secure their booking on the company’s official website with a token amount of ₹1,250.
With the backing of giants like Toyota and a manufacturing hub on the outskirts of Bengaluru, River is positioned to make waves in the EV market.
The Indie stands out with its unique blend of quirky and futuristic design, featuring flat body panels and a robotic façade.
It doesn’t just stop at looks; the scooter is packed with practical features such as lock and load pannier mounts, crash guards, and front footpegs, earning it the moniker ‘SUV of scooters’.
Its design emphasizes practicality with the longest and widest seat in its segment, a vast 20-inch footboard, and a generous 43-litre under-seat storage, illuminated for convenience, alongside a 12-litre glove box for additional storage.
River does not skimp on accessories, offering pannier bags, top boxes, and more to enhance the riding experience.
The Indie is available in various colours like Monsoon Blue, Summer Red, and Spring Yellow.
It also packs a punch with all-LED lighting, a fully digital six-inch LED instrument panel, USB charging ports, a side-stand motor cut-off switch, and a reverse parking assist.
Its instrument console is OTA update compatible, displaying an extensive range of information.
Powering the Indie is a robust 6.7kW electric motor linked to a 4kWh lithium-ion battery, promising a real-world range of 120 km on a single charge and fast charging up to 80% in just five hours.
Performance-wise, it can zip from 0-40 kmph in 3.9 seconds, reaching speeds up to 90 kmph. Riders can tailor their experience with three ride modes: Eco, Ride, and Rush.
Built on a dual-cradle tubular steel frame with telescopic forks up front and twin hydraulic rear springs, the Indie ensures a smooth ride on 14-inch alloy wheels.
Safety is paramount with a 240mm front disc and a 200mm rear disc brake, enhanced by a combi-brake system.
As River expands to 50 cities by 2024, it currently focuses on electrifying Bengaluru’s streets, setting a new benchmark for the electric scooter segment.
