Wrestling Federation bans Phogat sisters
The four famous Phogat sisters, Geeta Phogat, Babita Phogat, Ritu Phogat, and Sangeeta Phogat, are known for their amazing wrestling skills.
The sports biopic “Dangal” made them even more popular than they already were. However, the four sisters are now in for a massive shock.
According to the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), there were reports of the four sisters’ “tantrums and indiscipline”.
Tired of this alleged behavior, the WFI has decided to drop all four of the Phogat sisters from the national camp for the Asian Games.
The four Phogat sisters will not be allowed to take part in the Asiad trials, which are scheduled for later this month.
Since the Phogat sisters will not be allowed to take part in the Asiad trials later this month, this effectively ends their hopes of representing India in the Jakarta Palembang Games.
The Jakarta Palembang Games will be held in Indonesia later this year, from August to September. However, the trials are only open for the wrestlers who are part of the national camp.
Earlier, the WFI was criticized for going soft on Geeta and Babita, despite there being complaints of their indiscipline.
Now, on the latest act of indiscretion, the WFI has acted tough by dropping all four Phogat sisters from the national camp.
The four Phogat sisters are not the only ones who have had their names removed from the camp list.
15 men and women freestyle wrestlers have been removed from the camp list by the WFI.
On May 16th, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the president of the WFI, signed the notice for the removal of these players from the camp list.
Singh has stated that if these wrestlers had informed in advance about their no-show, then the federation would have accommodated other wrestlers in the camp.
Since they did not appear to be taking the camp seriously, the WFI has immediately removed the offenders from the Lucknow and Sonepat camps.
