Seamless WhatsApp chat migration between Android phones
Switching to a new Android phone? In such cases, transferring chats, messages, and other important information from your old phone to the new device is vital.
Now chat transfer has been made easy from one device to another on WhatsApp as the social media messaging app makes transferring your chat history effortless.
Here’s a straightforward guide to moving your messages, photos, videos, and documents while keeping your account intact.
However, remember, peer-to-peer payment messages and call history won’t be transferred.
While migrating chats from one phone to another, make sure that both devices are close to each other.
Requirements:
- Both old and new phones should have Android OS Lollipop 5.1 (SDK 23) or higher.
- Maintain the same phone number on your new device.
- Don’t register the new phone on WhatsApp before migration.
- Keep the phones close together during the transfer.
- Ensure both phones are connected to power and have WiFi enabled.
- WhatsApp needs certain permissions, including precise location on Android 12 or below.
Transferring Your Chat History:
On Your Old Phone:
- Open WhatsApp and go to More Options > Settings > Chats > Transfer chats > Start.
- Grant the requested permissions.
- Get ready to scan the QR code from your new phone.
On Your New Phone:
- Install WhatsApp, open it, and follow the setup steps.
- Agree to the terms and verify your phone number.
- Choose Start on “Transfer chat history from old phone”.
- Permit the necessary access and a QR code will appear.
- Use your old phone to scan this QR code.
- Confirm the connection on your new phone.
- A progress bar will show the transfer status. Don’t use WhatsApp during this process.
- Once done, hit Done.
- Now your new device is ready.
With these steps, transitioning to your new Android device with your complete WhatsApp history becomes a breeze. Stay connected without skipping a beat!
