India’s First Transgender Mayor
A transgender created history by winning in the civic polls in Raigarh. Madhu, an independent candidate won the mayor elections of the Raigarh Municipal Corporation by defeating the nearest BJP rival by 4,537 votes.
Madhu who belonged to the Dalit community is the first transgender to be elected as a mayor in the state. She said that people put lots of hopes on her in accomplishing their dreams. She added that the roads in the city are in a poor condition and there are many poor people in the city who don’t have a place to live, and she wants to make their dreams true. She also stated that she will support her community and provide opportunities for them to become economically sustained.
The CM of the state congratulated all the mayors and councillors who won in the elections. He hoped all of them would fulfil their responsibilities and extend their support to the government for the overall development of the state.
