Indowud NFC: Waste to Wood

Indowud NFC is redefining building materials by turning agricultural waste into a high-performance alternative to plywood and solid timber.

Its core innovation uses rice husk, a residue often burned after harvest, as the primary raw material for engineered boards.

Developing this technology required years of experimentation. Existing machinery could not process the required volume of rice husk, pushing the company to explore advanced European manufacturing technologies.

This eventually led to a proprietary process capable of converting the waste material into durable boards.

The innovation extends beyond simply replacing timber. Indowud NFC engineers performance into the material itself. Its bonding matrix makes the boards inherently waterproof, while the material is also designed to resist termites and rodents.

Non-toxic flame-retardant additives provide additional protection, allowing the boards to self-extinguish within seconds while generating network helps secure consistent raw material supplies while reducing transportation requirements. The approach could also extend to crop residue from significantly less smoke.

Another important innovation lies in Indowud’s sourcing model. The company works directly with more than 110 nearby rice mills.

This decentralised network helps secure consistent raw material supplies while reducing transportation requirements. The approach could also extend to crop residue from North India, creating a productive alternative to stubble burning.

Indowud has further demonstrated the material’s potential through real-world projects. Its applications include the Shree Cement corporate headquarters in Jaipur and a 110-villa seafront development in Oman.

These installations have helped demonstrate of relying heavily on traditional timber, it converts an abundant agricultural waste stream into a durable, sustainable the material’s ability to withstand demanding environmental conditions.

The technology also carries certifications supporting its environmental and performance credentials, including an Environmental Product Declaration, IGBC/CII GreenPro certification, RoHS compliance and zero VOC emissions.

At its heart, Indowud NFC represents a shift in how construction materials can be developed.

Instead of relying heavily on traditional timber, it converts an abundant agricultural waste stream into a durable, sustainable and technically engineered building material.
