EcoBio Traps: A green innovation for mosquito control
EcoBio Traps is a groundbreaking innovation in the fight against mosquito-borne diseases like dengue and malaria.
Developed by EcoBio Group Consulting Pvt. Ltd., this patented device is the world’s first passive, biodegradable green ovitrap, scientifically designed to mimic a mosquito breeding site while delivering a powerful vector control solution.
Unlike traditional chemical-based mosquito control methods, EcoBio Traps offer a simple, eco-friendly, and effective alternative.
Made from 100% recycled corrugated cardboard, the trap includes a bio-based additive that allows it to hold water for 4-6 weeks, long enough to break the mosquito life cycle without requiring maintenance.
The user simply adds water and places the trap in a shaded area. No chemicals, electricity, or supervision are needed.
The trap works on a scientifically validated principle: it mimics a breeding site, attracting gravid (egg-laying) female mosquitoes. Inside the trap is a sachet containing an attractant and a larvicide.
When mosquitoes lay their eggs, the larvicide either prevents the eggs from hatching or ensures that any larvae that do emerge do not survive to adulthood, thanks to the insect growth regulator (IGR) used.
This method targets the source, reducing mosquito populations at the breeding stage, which is crucial for preventing disease transmission.
EcoBio Traps are patented in over 50 countries and have been successfully piloted in Mumbai and Assam, in partnership with entities like the ICICI Foundation, ONGC Foundation, and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
This innovation is especially relevant for public health settings, including anganwadis, schools, clinics, and high-risk communities, where children and pregnant women are more vulnerable to mosquito-borne illnesses.
EcoBio Traps blend science, sustainability, and ease of use to offer a revolutionary approach to vector control.
EcoBio Traps do more than kill mosquitoes. They provide a passive and effective solution. They are also eco-friendly.
These traps help control mosquitoes by stopping their breeding. They work with little effort and protect the environment. This changes how mosquito control is done.
