Tripurantakam: A spiritual gateway to Srisailam

Famous for the Tripurantakeswara Temple, Tripurantakam is a spiritually significant village in the Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh.

This village, situated on the Guntur-Srisailam highway, holds a rich history rooted in Hindu mythology.

According to the Shiva Purana, Lord Shiva destroyed three demon cities ruled by the Tripurasuras at this very spot.

Hence, he is worshipped as Tripurantakeswara, and the village derives its name from this legend.

Perched atop Kumara Giri hill, the Tripurantakeswara Swamy Temple is a major attraction.

The temple complex is also believed to have a secret underground passage leading to the Srisailam Kshetram.

Devotees can either drive up the ghat road or climb the steps to reach this hilltop temple.

At the entrance, an 80-foot-tall Rajagopura greets visitors, displaying intricate architecture that sets it apart from other temples in the region.

At the foot of the hill, in the middle of a pond, lies the temple of Sri Bala Tripura Sundari, the first incarnation of Adi Parashakti.

Depicted as a young girl, this goddess is said to have assisted Lord Shiva in destroying the demons.

The temple’s serene atmosphere, coupled with the daily Kumkumarchanaritual following the installation of the Sri Chakra by Adi Shankaracharya, adds to its spiritual aura.

The goddess is adorned with silver ornaments, and lemons are used in her regular decoration.

Tripurantakam is not just a centre for Saivism but also a hub for ancient spiritual practices like Siddha yoga and tantric rituals.

The area is dotted with sacred spots, including the Kadamba tree, which is found only in this region and Kashi.

Visitors can also explore nearby temples like those dedicated to Siddi Ganapathi and Goddess Parvati, enhancing the rich cultural and religious experience.

Revered as the eastern gateway to Srisailam, Tripurantakam holds immense spiritual significance.

It is a must-visit destination for devotees seeking divine blessings and historical intrigue.
