If the train is late by more than an hour, the passengers would get a compensation of ₹100 and it would be ₹250 if the train is delayed by more than two hours.

Besides, passengers would also get ₹25 lakh travel insurance without paying any additional amount.

Tejas Express is one of the premium trains in the country. It will be managed by private players in the coming months through a bidding process. However, till then it will be operated by IRCTC.

In addition to this train, private players would take over and run on some routes. The Railways Ministry is also expected to allow them to operate using its infrastructure and facilities.

Allowing private players partially is expected to bring investments without the need to opt for disinvestment.

Another train that runs between Delhi and Chandigarh will be handed over to a private player after Tejas Express.

Niti Aayog earlier suggested privatizing the operation of some of the stadiums and relevant infrastructure of Railways. The government could also accept it and involve private players to improve the standard of services and facilities.

If the stadiums of the Railways are leased out to private players for commercial use, they can earn up to ₹1000 crore.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had already said that Indian Railways needs an investment of about ₹50 lakh crore between 2018 and 2030.

She added that the government would consider the public-private partnership to upgrade infrastructure and facilities.
