Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched his Ayushman Bharat healthcare scheme. In just one day, the scheme has benefited more than 1000 patients.

The first beneficiary of the scheme is a 22-year-old woman by the name Poonam Mahato.

Most of the beneficiaries of the day are from Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Jharkhand, Assam and Madhya Pradesh.

The scheme was launched by Modi on Sunday. Modi himself handed out five gold cards during the launch.

In just a few hours after the scheme was started, four patients were admitted to Ranchi Institute of Medical Sciences.

They are receiving procedures like urology, stenting and cystoscopy which will be covered by the scheme.

The healthcare scheme aims to provide ₹5 lakh rupees per year to more than 10 crore families.

Around 98 percent of the beneficiaries for the scheme have already been identified. National Health Agency (NHA) is currently busy in sending letters from PM to each beneficiary about the scheme.

These letters would consist of QR codes which can be used by families for healthcare services directly. Around 40 lakh letters have already been sent from the PM.

The letters will be scanned by trained facilitators at hospitals to verify the beneficiaries and give them healthcare under the scheme. The facilitators are called ‘Arogya Mitras’.

In the next four years, the government wants to setup 50,000 wellness centres all over the country.

The new scheme has been rejected by five states in the country including Kerala and West Bengal.

NHA already started a website along with a helpline number for people to call and check if they are eligible to the scheme. One can visit for the website of this scheme.
