Vizag Celebrated an Eco-friendly Diwali | Fusion - WeRIndia

Vizag, the city which was severely affected by Hudhud celebrated its Diwali without bursting fire crackers. The city lost all its greenery with the cyclone.

The residents of Vizag were not in the mood to celebrate their Diwali in a grand manner by spending too much on crackers. Another reason is that the city was surrounded with dry leaves and debris while several trees were falling around. People feared the burning of crackers could start a fire and lead to another disaster. Furthermore, they were requested by the CM not to fire crackers on Diwali as this may pose another threat to the city.

Many shops in the city requested people to stop firing crackers and spend the money on planting trees or donating to CM Relief Fund. Even the idea of celebrating Diwali in an eco-friendly way is spread through social media. For all these reasons, they stayed away from bursting crackers and celebrated their Diwali by lightening lamps which was the first time in the history of Vizag. Some voluntary groups distributed saplings in various regions of the city.
