Special casual leave for CG employees
Home quarantine is essential for COVID-19 infection to contain the spread of the virus. As a result, people have to stay at home for not just their infection, but also if any of their family members get infected. In this context, employees have to take leave. This affects their leave status.
To provide great relief to employees during this pandemic, the central government approved special casual leave (SCL). All central government employees can get 15 days of special casual leave if their parents or other dependent family members tested COVID-19 positive.
The Department of Personnel and Training issued an order in this regard. It stated that the order was released considering the pleas received from many employees related to COVID-19 treatment and quarantine period. They sought clarification on this matter. Hence, the ministry issued a statement saying that the absence due to the pandemic situation would be treated as special leave.
These orders shall be effective from March 25, 2020, till the issuance of further orders by the government.
The orders stated that if any government servant has to remain in home-quarantine due to direct contact with a COVID patient, he/she shall be treated as on-duty or work from home for seven days.
The leave of the employees can be extended if any of their family members are infected or hospitalized till the employees discharge from the hospital. In that case, additional leave is granted even after 15 days of SCL.
Besides, employees shall be given 20 days of commuted leave if they have to be under home isolation or quarantine due to COVID infection and hospitalized.
The leave counts from the date of their testing COVID positive. However, they have to submit documentary proof of hospitalization to get leave after 20 days.
