Railways introduces economy class in AC 3-tier compartments | Fusion - WeRIndia

Indian Railways introduced the economy class in 3-tier Air Conditioned trains. This move helps accommodate more passengers at a lower price than normal AC 3-tier fares.

Amit Malviya, a Public Relations Officer with the Indian Railways, said that the new economy class has been provided for the first time in the Prayagraj-Jaipur train.

He also said that berths have been increased from 72 to 83 to accommodate more people. These coaches have more advanced features like a smoke detector.

The better features will provide comfort to passengers, especially to the differently-abled and senior citizens.  The coaches have modular bio-toilets with touch-free fitting.

There is a dining table and magazine holder near the sleeper seat. Besides, these new coaches have personalised aircraft-style AC vents at each berth to adjust air-conditioning.

The ticket price is 2.4 times the base price of the present sleeper class trains. The base fare is ₹1757 for trains operating up to 2000 km and ₹3065 for trains operating up to 5000 km.

IRCTC gave around 50 economy class coaches to different zonal railways. Railways is planning to bring more such coaches by this financial year. It wants to roll out nearly 806 coaches by the end of this year.

Meanwhile, Indian Railways decided to operate over 200 special trains on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. The Indian Railways Central Railway (CR) and Western Railway (WR) will run these trains. The Central Railway will run 175 trains, and the Western Railway will run 42 trains.

Railways said that passengers who have confirmed tickets only would be allowed to board these special trains. Besides, all passengers have to adhere to COVID-19 protocols and SOPs.
