PM Modi announces ₹1,500 Cr relief for flood-hit Himachal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to flood-affected Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday, announced a financial assistance package of ₹1,500 crore to support relief and rehabilitation efforts.

After conducting an aerial survey of the worst-hit areas, he held a review meeting in Kangra to assess the damage and coordinate future rebuilding strategies.

The Centre will advance the second instalment of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, ensuring immediate financial support to the affected. This multi-sectoral plan helps rebuild Himachal Pradesh.

Additionally, PM Modi announced ex gratia relief of:

  • ₹2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased
  • ₹50,000 to those seriously injured

To rebuild the state, the government has announced a multi-pronged strategy:

  • Housing: Damaged homes will be rebuilt under PM Awas Yojana. A geotagging process will be used for precise damage assessment and quick aid delivery.
  • Infrastructure: The restoration of national highways and damaged roads is a priority.
  • Education: Schools will report damage using geotagging under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, enabling prompt rebuilding support.
  • Agriculture & Livestock: Special assistance will be extended to farmers without power connections. Mini Kits will be distributed for livestock recovery and care.
  • Water Management: Recharge structures will be built for rainwater harvesting, aimed at enhancing groundwater levels and improving long-term water security.

Inter-Ministerial Central Teams have already visited Himachal to conduct a detailed damage assessment.

Based on their report and the state’s official memorandum, further assistance will be evaluated.

Expressing deep sorrow, PM Modi met affected families and assured them that the Centre will stand by Himachal through this crisis.

He lauded the relief work by the NDRF, SDRF, Army, and local administration, stressing the government’s full commitment to support the state’s recovery.

The Centre will continue to review and amplify support as required, based on evolving needs and ground realities.
