Parents don’t want to send their kids to school now
Schools have been closed in the country since March this year. The government has not yet confirmed the reopening of schools.
Meanwhile, a community social media platform surveyed to know the opinion of parents on sending their children to schools if they are reopened.
The survey of LocalCircles revealed that a majority of parents did not show interest in sending their children to schools.
Nearly 71 per cent of parents said that they won’t send their children to school in October even if they are reopened. Considering the rising COVID cases in the country, parents feel it safe to keep their children at home rather than sending to schools which may increase the risk of transmission.
More than 14,500 people participated in the survey from around 217 districts across the country. Nearly 61 per cent of parents were from Tier 1 districts while remaining include parents from Tier 2, 3 and 4 districts.
71 per cent of parents clearly said that they won’t send their children to schools now while 20 per cent agreed to send. The remaining 9 per cent were unsure.
Earlier also, in August, LocalCircles conducted a similar survey. At that time, 23 per cent of parents interested in sending their children to schools. But, now the parents willing to send their children to schools dropped to 20 per cent.
While 32 per cent said that schools should not be opened till the end of this year, i.e. December 31, 34 per cent expressed that they should not be opened for this academic year, i.e. till April 2021.
The survey indicates that parents don’t want to put their children’s life at risk due to increasing COVID cases in the country. But, they prefer to lose one academic year. They also seek alternatives like provision of education through other means like online or TV channels to keep children engaged.
