NITI Aayog meeting to be held by PM Modi

NITI Aayog, the National Institution for Transforming India is a think-tank of Indian Government policy. It was set up by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi to substitute Planning Commission.

NITI Aayog meeting is to be held by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today in order to give a concrete shape to the document for quickening overall development of the country.

Headed by the PM, the meeting will focus on exhibiting the development done till now on the 15-year vision document. NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Arvind Panagariya and other members will attend the meeting in which the economy and development on several government programmes that are supervised by the official committee will be contemplated by the Prime Minister.

The reports on poverty alleviation and on ‘future development of agriculture’ will be submitted by the task force. Both these panels were established in February 2015 in the first meeting of NITI Aayog. An official stated that today’s NITI Aayog is the prologue to the meeting of the NITI Aayog Governing Council which is anticipated soon to measure the vision document.


The Governing Council is chaired by the Prime Minister and includes chief minister of all states and the ex-officio members that include home, finance, railway and agriculture ministers. The government asked the policy making body to come up with a 15-year vision document till 2030 so that there will be co-terminus with viable goals regarding growth.

The NITI Aayog is also working on a 7-year strategy. The strategy of 7 years will start from 2017-18 and end by 2023-24. The main aim is to transform a vision document into practical ways implementing policy and accomplish the Agenda of National Development.

In order to line with 14th Finance Commission award period, three year action plan is also prepared as part of the National Development Agenda for the years of 2017-18, 2018 -19 and 2019-20. The action plan is significant since 2016-17 is the terminal year for the 12th Five-Year Plan.
