Isolated Covid suspect dies in Kerala

A 36-year old man who was admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Ernakulam, Kerala with pneumonia symptoms died on Saturday.

Jainesh had been working in Malaysia for more than two years. He recently landed at the Cochin International Airport. As he was returning from the Covid-19 hit area he was seen exhausted with severe coughing and as such he was quarantined to the isolation ward.

The tests revealed that he had had breathlessness and pneumonia in addition to ketoacidosis.  The Virology Institute in Alappuzha tested his body fluids for H1N1 and COVID-19.

The man was put on ventilator support due to severe health issues. The first sample of his fluids tested negative and the results of the second sample for Covid-19 are awaited. NIV Pune has yet to send the results.


Meanwhile, the man died. Hence, his dead body was kept in a freezer at the isolation ward with all precautionary measures.

However, health minister K.K Shylaja said that post-mortem will be conducted to know the reason behind the death of the man.

Several people returning from other countries especially from China, Malaysia, Korea etc. are being kept at quarantined wards for screening due to the fear of novel coronavirus infection. As many as 17 people have been kept under observation in Ernakulam district.

Out of them, eight have been discharged after their test reports showed negative for Covid-19. Officials said that five samples had been sent to the Alappuzha lab on Friday.

In addition to that, 28 people have been isolated at home. Around 40 people are under quarantine in Ernakulam at present.

To spread awareness among students and the public and to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection, awareness classes are being conducted.
