First National Handloom day to be launched by Modi
India is going to observe National Handloom Day on August 7 as India is renowned for its Handloom products in the world. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil the first National Handloom Day tomorrow at an occasion in Chennai. He will also launch the ‘India Handloom’ brand to enhance market positioning of quality products. It will also encourage handloom products. The Handloom Day will be reveled throughout the country with the cooperation of state governments.
August 7 has special significance in India’s history and freedom movement. That’s why this date has been chosen. India fought against foreign products in the history. In 1905, the Swadeshi Movement was introduced on this day to revive the domestic products and manufacturing processes.
Textile Ministry states that the observance of National Handloom Day and respecting of handloom weavers will not just help be a motivation to the Indian handloom industry but also aid in encouraging handloom as an authentic global product of good quality. The programme will be organized in Chennai in the Centenary hall of Madras University.
In addition to that, the Sant Kabir awards and National Awards to eminent handloom personalities will be conferred by PM Modi for the years 2012, 2013 and 2014 on the same day.
