In June, the Indian government banned 59 mobile applications with Chinese links.

The government on Wednesday banned 118 more applications to keep up the sovereignty and integrity of India.

The popular PUBG app is among the banned apps. Baidu, WeChat Work, CamCard Business, and Game of Sultans are some other blocked apps.

Earlier in this week, China provoked India and allegedly made a transgression attempt near the southern bank of Pangong Tso in Ladakh. However, Indian troops thwarted this attempt.

Interestingly, the government’s decision to ban these Chinese apps came at this time.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology released a press note stating that the Government of India has decided to block 118 mobile apps which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India.

As per the press release, these mobile apps are engaged in activities which are prejudicial to the defence of India, national security and public order.

The Ministry said that there are several reports that these apps are misusing the data of users on different platforms like Android and iOS, and it has received various complaints on the misuse.

These mobile apps steal the data of users secretly and transmit it in an unauthorized manner to servers outside India.

These apps seem to be hostile to national security and defence. Besides, The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre and Ministry of Home Affairs have also recommended blocking these malicious mobile applications.

The Ministry said that it has received credible inputs recently on the misuse of information and data by these apps.

The ways they use to collect and share data pose a severe threat to national security; hence serious concerns were raised on using these apps.

In the interest of sovereignty and integrity of India, the government decided to block the usage of these apps in both mobile and non-mobile devices.

The Ministry says that ban will safeguard the interests of crores of Indian users who use these apps. It also ensures the safety and security of Indian cyberspace.
