Centre announces scholarships to minorities

The central government announced scholarships to five crore students from minority communities to pursue various courses. These include 50 per cent girls and these scholarships will be given in the next five years.

Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi stated that these scholarships would be provided to pursue pre-matric, post-matric, and professional and technical courses.

In order to empower students especially the girls from minority communities, various scholarships would be given to students in the coming 5 years.

Over 10 lakh Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarships would be provided to economically weaker sections of minorities in the next 5 years.


The minister said that the girls who have dropped out of their school education from minority communities would be provided education and employment through bridge courses from renowned educational institutions.

He also said that Madrassa teachers in the country would be trained by various institutions in mainstream subjects such as Hindi, English, Science, Maths and Computer to provide mainstream education to their students.

The madrassa programme would be launched in next month.

In order to improve awareness among the parents who do not send their daughters to schools for various reasons, the ‘Padho-Badho’ awareness campaign will be launched.

The campaign will mainly focus on girls. This program includes street plays, cultural programs and short films.

In the initial phase, 60 regions across the country where minorities are concentrated are chosen to conduct the awareness campaign.

The minister added that free coaching would be given for various jobs to the poor students from minority communities including Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Parsis.

These jobs include administrative services, banking services, railways, staff selection commission exams and other competitive exams.
