CBSE exam postponed in Northeast Delhi | Fusion - WeRIndia

Due to violence in Delhi on the contentious citizenship act, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) postponed the examinations for Class 10 and Class 12 in North East Delhi to a later date.

The Board says that the exams in other areas of Delhi shall be conducted as scheduled.

There are 73 centres in the Northeast region and 7 in east Delhi.

The CBSE released a press note stating that the exams have been postponed in the northeast part of Delhi on the decision of Directorate of Education, Government of Delhi and to avoid inconvenience to students and parents.

It added that the next date for the exams will be notified soon.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had earlier said that all the schools in northeast Delhi would remain shut down and examinations would be rescheduled.

He urged CBSE to reschedule its exams in violence-affected northeast Delhi.

In the wake of violence that broke out in northeast Delhi against the citizenship act, several miscreant actions including stone-pelting, arson, and vandalism continued in those regions for two days.

The death toll due to communal violence in Delhi reached 22 on Wednesday from the earlier 13.

More than 100 people were injured in this violence. Several shops were burnt and people were roaming on streets with sticks and rods.

A high-level meeting had been held on Tuesday chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal attended it to discuss the issue.

Kejriwal said the central government promised to deploy enough police personnel to control the violence. If needed, the army personnel would be called for as well. However, currently, the police are taking the required actions to control rival groups.

He added that hospitals and Delhi Fire Service had been given proper instructions to bring the situation to normalcy.
