All-party meeting on ‘One Nation One Election’

All-party meeting on ‘One Nation One Election’

The Modi-led government held an all-party meeting yesterday to discuss on different issues including ‘One Nation One Election’.

All political parties that have representation in the Parliament have been invited by the government.

In addition to that, parties that have no representation in the Parliament have also been invited.

Several opposition parties including Trinamool Congress missed the meeting.


Mamata Banerjee asked the government to prepare a white paper on ‘one nation, one election’ idea.

Congress also stayed away from the meeting after consulting with other parties on this issue.

The BSP chief Mayawati also did not attend the meeting saying that holding both state and central elections simultaneously seems to be undemocratic and unconstitutional for a large country like India.

She also said that elections should not be weighed on the basis of expenditure.

She added that it is not the only issue in the country, the elections through ballot papers are an actual issue and her party would continue its struggle against it.

JD(U)’s chief Nitish Kumar, BJD’s Naveen Patnaik, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, National Conference’s Farooq Abdullah, PDP’s Mehbooba Mufti and YSRCP’s Jaganmohan Reddy are some of the people who attended the meeting.

On the issue of ‘one nation one election’, several parties opposed with the opinion of the central government.

Telangana Rashtra Samiti president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar did not attend the meeting. However, his son K.T. Rama Rao, working president of the party attended the meeting.

The meeting agenda also included the celebration of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi this year and 75 years of Independence in 2022.

The meeting would be continued today as well with all the MPs and ends with dinner.
