1000 crore gifted to PMs Swachh plan by India Inc. | Fusion - WeRIndia

India Inc. has jumped onto the Swachh Bharat bandwagon by gifting over Rs.1,000 crore towards the clean India project. Major company homes like L&T, DLF, Vedanta, Bharti, TCS, Ambuja Cements, Toyota Kirloskar, Maruti, Tata Motors, Coca Cola, Dabur, Reciktt Benckiser, Aditya Birla group, Adani, Biocon, Infosys, TVS and lots of others have joined the mission by committing budgets for projects joined to Swachh Bharat.

These projects vary from building bathrooms in distant villages, running workshops to usher in behavioral changes, waste management to water hygiene and sanitation.

While most of those projects are under their corporate social responsibility (CSR) heads, there are also some that are partially funded through CSR or are designed as public non-public partnerships. Many experts have stated that this move by the corporates serves them two purposes. It helps them fulfill the 2 percent mandatory investment in CSR and it will also help them get good attention from the government.

“As soon as PM called for the campaign, the initial responses were to take up the broom and there were a number of companies who urged their employees in this campaign,” says Santhosh Jayaram, technical director, sustainability advisory, KPMG.
