1.5 Crore Bank Accounts opened in a day in Jan Dhan Yojana
With the aim of opening 7.5 crore new bank accounts in the country, Jan DhanYojana has been started. The financial drive has received massive success on the first day of opening with 1.5 crore bank accounts. The financial inclusion drive is started because there is a huge amount of population in India who still do not have access to the banking system.
This scheme encourages people to open a bank account by offering a Rupay debit card, andRs.1 lakh accident insurance policy along with Rs 30,000 life insurance cover to those who open an account.
Several cabinet ministers along with chief ministers of several states went to various locations on Thursday to launch the scheme from 600 locations. There were more than 77,000 camps set up by banks to open accounts. The finance minister ArunJaitley has stated that the government will reach the target of opening 7.5 crore accounts before January 26, 2015 even though the planned day was August 15, 2015.
