Walmart’s Flipkart Minutes redefines India’s quick commerce

India’s quick-commerce market is undergoing a transformation as Walmart introduces its innovative Flipkart Minutes service, promising deliveries within 20 minutes.

There are many companies in the market, like Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, Zepto, and BigBasket. This initiative is set to raise the bar for competitors.

By combining Flipkart’s extensive e-commerce network with Walmart’s global expertise. Thus, the service aims to meet the growing demand for faster grocery deliveries in India.

This move is a game-changer in quick commerce. Flipkart has already begun piloting its ultra-fast delivery service in Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi NCR.

Flipkart’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Rajneesh Kumar, emphasized the importance of catering to customer expectations, especially in metro cities like Kolkata, Delhi, and Bangalore.

Although expansion timelines for other cities remain undisclosed, the company sees immense potential in this sector.

Adding to the competition, Walmart-owned PhonePe has launched the Pincode app, which offers 10-20 minute delivery in major cities.

This reflects a focused effort by Walmart to dominate the rapidly growing quick-commerce market, which is expected to see significant growth in the coming years.

The e-commerce sector has been growing in the country for the past many years.

India’s quick-commerce sector, valued at $6.1 billion in 2024, is projected to grow to $40 billion by 2030, according to Datum Intelligence.

Overall, the e-commerce market, currently worth $70 billion, represents only 7% of India’s total retail sector.

Experts predict this share will grow to 12% by 2028 as digital platforms gain traction.

Flipkart is also focusing on rural and semi-urban areas by localizing its app to support various Indian languages.

This initiative enables non-English-speaking consumers to shop online with ease.

The platform’s growth has been bolstered by small and micro-sellers, including artisans and nano-entrepreneurs.

As Walmart and Flipkart ramp up efforts to innovate in the quick-commerce segment, the competition is set to drive better services and transform how Indians shop online.
