Things to know about Udyogini Scheme

To empower women, the government of India launched several initiatives. Udyogini scheme is one among them. This scheme intends to provide financial support to underprivileged women entrepreneurs to start their own businesses.

Here are some important things to know about Udyogini Scheme:

  • Udyogini Scheme provides financial support of up to ₹3 lakhs for women of various categories. These include widows, destitute or differently-abled women etc. Special category women can get interest-free loans under Udyogini Scheme.
  • Many public and private sector banks offer this loan.
  • The loan can be used by any woman, including manufacturers, retailers, traders, self-employed etc.
  • Women of 18 to 55 years can avail of this scheme. The family income of the applicant should not exceed ₹1.5 lakh per annum.
  • No collateral is required to obtain the loan. Up to 30% subsidy is provided in the loan amount.
  • There is no processing fee on this loan. The interest rate varies with the bank.
  • An Aadhaar card, BPL card, bank passbook copy, income proof, and two passport size photographs are required to get this loan. A caste certificate is needed for SC for ST.
  • There are 88 small-scale industries to get the loan under the scheme. Some of them include milk booth, canteen and catering, flower shops, gym centre, sweet shop, tea stall, vegetable vending, stationery shop, ice cream parlour, photo studio, wet grinding etc.
  • Skill development training is also provided to women to start a business in various aspects. These include business planning, pricing, the viability of business etc. After the approval, EDP training is provided to women before the disbursement of the loan. Hence, they can learn various things about their business.
  • The scheme also supports illiterate women to start the business. So, they can become financially independent despite having no education.
  • As the scheme supports all categories of women, including general, all eligible women can benefit from it.
