PMAY - how to get affordable homes

Owning a home is one of the most common and wanted desires of almost every person or family. Many middle class citizens dream of buying a new home in their lives.

However, the prices in real estate sector usually makes it hard for them to realize their dream. The interest rates on loans is also usually too high to bear for most families.

To help people in this situation, the government has launched an ambitious mission of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana or PMAY. The aim of this mission is to provide affordable housing for all Indian citizens. Here is how to apply to PMAY.

The first step is to go to the official website of PMAY at pmaymis.gov.in. One can see the options of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana application from “Citizen Assessment” menu. After clicking, there are two option: For Slum Dwellers and Benefits of other 3 Components.


Slum dwellers is for those in slums, others (those living in rural, urban, or semi-urban areas) should use ‘benefits of other 3 components’.

A new window opens up asking for details. The details are pretty self-explanatory and should be filled accurately.

After the details are filled, there is a checkbox which says “I am aware that any claims regarding my inclusions/exclusions shall remain with State govt/urban local body and MoHUPA is just facilitating the process.” Check it and then fill the captcha code and click the “Save” button.

After this process you get an application number which you need to save. The number is used in future.

Using that number you can track the status of your application. Simply goto the website again and click of check status.

You can also get a printout of the PMAY online application form filled by entering your name, father name & ID type or just the application number.
