Special programme on Emergency on DD
Don’t miss the special programme on emergency that is telecasting on Doordarshan in these days.
Public broadcaster Doordarshan is dedicated to telecast the special programmes on emergency. This five-day series is designed to telecast from June 23 to June 27. It was forty years after the emergency came into effect. Emergency was declared by the Indira Gandhi led government from June 25, 1975, and it was withdrawn on March 21, 1977.
The series is planned for half-an hour to reveal the numerous events occurred during that time which included the censorship of media, arrests of political leaders etc. And it clues the incidents that lead to the deferment of democratic rights such as the Navnirman Andolan, and the polls of 1971. The programme also included the interviews of several personalities that witnessed the incidents of emergency.
Being the public broadcaster, Doordarshan is aiming to emphasize the public’s commitment towards the values of democratic and constitutional.
According to sources, some of the leaders who shared their opinions in these programmes are as follows: BJP leaders L K Advaniand and Arun Jaitley, Congress leaders Ambika Soni, S Jaipal Reddy, Kamal Nath and Mohsina Kidwai, and D P Tripathi of NCP. Former law minister Shanti Bhushan, and journalists like Kuldip Nayyar, Virender Kapoor, Inder Malhotra and M J Akbar are some others.
