Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention

The Pravasi Bharatiya Diyas Convention was started in order to share and understand the expertise from the vast overseas Indian community and bring that knowledge to a common platform. This convention is being conducted every year from January 7th to January 9th since 2003.

Pravasi Bharatiya Diyas (PBD) is celebrated every year on January 9th. This celebration is made to mark the contribution made by the Overseas Indian Community in development of India. The reason for choosing January 9 to celebrate this day is because of the fact that Mahatma Gandhi returned to India from South Africa on this day in 1915. Gandhi, the greatest Pravasi then led the freedom struggle of India and changed the lives of Indians.

Since 2003, PBD is holding conventions every year. These conventions act as platform for overseas Indian community to engage with the government and people of India. They are also useful in networking for people of the overseas Indian community who are residing in various parts of the world and share their experience with everyone. Individuals with extraordinary merit are also honoured with the prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award to appreciate them. The convention will be held at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
