Green crusader: Sarada Vani’s quest for a lusher world
In an age where the planet’s health is a growing concern, Sarada Vani stands out as a symbol of environmental dedication in Vijayawada.
The founder and chairman of the SNG Foundation, Vani, has spent over three decades greening the urban landscapes of Vijayawada and Guntur.
With a team of 280 plant enthusiasts from the Telugu states and the USA, she has turned barren lands into lush green spaces.
Vani’s green thumb has left its mark across Krishna, Guntur, and Prakasam districts, enhancing the aesthetics and air quality of engineering colleges, hospitals, and many more buildings.
Her efforts have not gone unnoticed, as she’s been celebrated by local governments for her contribution to the environment.
Remarkably, Vani has planted over 1.5 lakh saplings in just five years, earning her a spot in the Wonder Book of Records International for a massive planting of 1,500 trees in 30 seconds.
Her love for flora is deeply personal. She enjoys nurturing plants and donating them to others.
Central to her mission is the ‘Adopt a Tree’ initiative, encouraging locals to sponsor and care for trees.
This initiative reflects her belief in community involvement in environmental conservation.
Vani’s dedication extends to education, offering classes and advice on plant care and cultivation.
Beyond her environmental work, Vani’s philanthropy shines through partnerships with The Lions Club International and The Association of Alliance Clubs.
Her family’s support has been crucial in her journey, underscoring the importance of community and kinship in her achievements.
Vani’s environmental and social contributions have been recognized with numerous awards. They include the Best NGO Award for the SNG Foundation and the Best Landscaping Award for Lumbini Park.
These awards are a testament to her impactful work in greening public spaces.
