Namma Yatri app faces rising ride cancellations
In the bustling city of Bengaluru, commuters seeking an alternative to traditional ride-hailing giants find themselves grappling with unexpected ride cancellations on the Namma Yatri app.
Touted as a game-changer by the Auto Rickshaw Drivers’ Union, the app, launched in November 2022, promised a cancellation-free experience, drawing users eager for a reliable and cost-effective transportation option.
However, the recent surge in ride cancellations has left many riders disillusioned, challenging the app’s reputation for seamless service.
A data analyst in north Bengaluru, shared her dismay after a driver abruptly cancelled her ride upon learning the drop location.
This incident has raised concerns among users who had been drawn to Namma Yatri precisely for its advertised reliability.
Some residents echoed the sentiment, stating that while the app remains cost-effective, with fares undercutting competitors by ₹10-20, the increasing trend of cancellations is a cause for concern.
Many users, introduced to Namma Yatri by auto drivers themselves, now question the app’s ability to deliver on its commitment to a hassle-free experience.
Namma Yatri is an open-source app developed in collaboration with Juspay Technologies and Beckn Foundation.
It initially garnered praise for its success, facilitating approximately 80,000 trips daily and generating ₹90 crore in earnings for auto drivers.
Despite its achievements, the recent spate of cancellations has cast a shadow on the app’s reputation.
Addressing the issue, the General Secretary of the Auto Rickshaw Drivers’ Union acknowledged the problem of cancellations and attributed it to a lack of understanding among some drivers.
He emphasized the union’s commitment to addressing the issue and continuing their efforts to educate drivers on customer service etiquette.
Rudramurthy assured users that MetroMitra, a forthcoming service by the union, would eliminate cancellations.
MetroMitra, a WhatsApp-based chatbot and application designed to enhance last-mile connectivity, is set to deploy only professional drivers adhering to a strict code of conduct.
As Namma Yatri grapples with user dissatisfaction, the Auto Rickshaw Drivers’ Union remains resolute in its commitment to rectifying the issue. In addition, it also ensures a reliable, cancellation-free experience for commuters in the future.
