Alternate ID proofs to Voter ID to cast a vote
Voter ID card is issued by the Election Commission of India to adult citizens, after attaining the age of 18 years. You need to apply for a voter ID card to get it. Since it is a vital document, you should keep it carefully.
A voter ID card is required to cast a vote in the elections. However, if it is not available or lost, you can cast your vote using any of the below-mentioned documents. However, your name should be on the voter list to cast a vote. In such a case, you can use any of these documents to cast your vote.
These documents are birth certificate, Aadhaar card, PAN card, driving license, valid passport, MGNREGA job card, health insurance card issued by the Ministry of Labour & Employment, the smart card issued by the National Population Register (NPR), and Marks list of Class X or VIII or V, which contains the date of birth.
Besides, employees of central and state governments and public limited companies can show their ID cards. Attested pension photo ID cards and official ID cards issued by an MLA or MP are also approved.
If you lost your voter ID card, you can apply for a duplicate Electors Photo Identification Card (EPIC) following the below-mentioned procedure:
You have to register with them to create an account. Enter your email ID and verify it. Create a password for your account. Select the Replacement of Voter ID option on the dashboard. Enter required details. You need to mention the reason for the replacement of your voter ID card.
Select the option in which you collect the voter ID from the available options. Choose the mode of payment. Preview the form before submitting it and proceed to payment. You will get a reference ID. Keep it carefully to track its status.
