Keep these air-purifying plants at home
Indoor air pollution is growing year by year. Many studies claim that indoor air pollution has increased over the years and can cause many health issues like asthma. It is due to the overuse of cleaning solutions, carpets, glues, ovens, plastic, fibre, rubber etc.
Some people keep air purifiers to protect from indoor pollution. However, many plants act as natural air purifiers. They keep the environment green and purify your surroundings. They are cost-effective as well.
Hence, keep these air-purifying plants at your home:
- Chrysanthemums purify the air by eliminating several toxins like ammonia, formaldehyde, benzene, and xylene. You have to keep the plant damp regularly. However, this plant is toxic to your pets like cats and dogs.
- Spider plants or air plants grow faster. They eliminate formaldehyde and xylene. Just water the plant twice or thrice a week. The plant is safe for children and pets.
- Bamboo palms are ideal to grow in winter as they transpire moisture into the air. Just place the plant where there is enough air circulation and keep the soil moist. The plant is safe for your children and pets. It eliminates carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, chloroform, benzene, and xylene.
- Golden Pothos or Devil’s ivy eliminates many common household toxins like formaldehyde, toluene, benzene, carbon monoxide, and xylene and purifies the indoor air. But, it is toxic to animals. The plant needs water when the soil is dry.
- Rubber plants need a moderate amount of water to grow. They can eliminate carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, and trichloroethylene. But, keep the plant away from your pets as it is toxic to them.
- Peace lilies eliminate all common household toxins like ammonia, formaldehyde, benzene, and xylene. The plant needs slightly moist soil to grow and adequate light. However, the plant is toxic to both children and pets. It can also cause skin problems like irritation, burning and swelling in adults.
