Heroic doctors in J&K
Recently, Jammu and Kashmir was hit with a horrifying flood. In this flood destroyed place, several doctors and patients were stranded for four days without food, medical supplies, and electricity.
Dr. Shanaaz Teing, who worked at Lal Ded, along with hundreds of patients and attendants found herself stuck at Lal Ded on September 6, 2014. The flood was already 15 feet high and has submerged the ground floor of hospital. There was no access to electricity, canteen, and the blood bank. The whole hospital was in chaos due to the darkness.
During this tough time, the doctors took charge in a helpless situation. Dr. Teing has successfully delivered babies by performing complicated C-section operations with very minimal resources.
There were 18 staff members, 300 patients, and 400 attendants stuck in the hospital for four days. No help arrived yet the staff and patients managed the situation. The doctors did everything they could to settle the situation. They manually pumped respirators to help patients breathe. They supplied dextrose-saline water to patients and attendants to help them survive.
It truly takes a lot of on the spot thinking and heroics to lead so many patients to survival during such times.
