Fire accident in Delhi Hotel

A fire accident took place at Hotel Arpit Palace at Karol Bagh, New Delhi yesterday morning.

At least 17 people have died in this massive fire attack. There was a child among the dead people.

Several people were injured in this accident. They were rushed to three hospitals including the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RML).

All the people in the hotel were sleeping at that time. Hence, most of them could not escape from the fire attack.

Some people tried to escape the fire. They jumped from the higher floors which led to severe injuries.

Fire control team received a call at 4:35 a.m. And, 24 fire tenders were rushed to the spot immediately.

Around 35 people were rescued safely from the fire accident.

It is suspected that short circuit was the reason behind this fire accident. The short circuit occurred at the second floor at approximately 3:30 a.m. which is believed to have caused the fire.

However, the cause is yet to be identified.

The hotel obtained licence first in October 2005, and from then onwards it has been renewed each year.

The last renewal was done on May 25, 2018 which is valid till March 31. In the meanwhile, this incident happened.

The eyewitnesses say that suffocation caused most deaths.

The hotel corridors have wooden paneling which led to the spreading of fire quickly.

The police registered an FIR and is probing whether there was any negligence on part of the hotel. The Fire Department will also check whether the building is compatible with the fire safety measures.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced ₹5lakh ex gratia to the immediate relatives of those who died in the accident.
